Multiple Intelligences Inside and Outside the Classroom

César Chávez Elementary School will be using their 2017-18 Innovation Award for K-5 “learning showcases” as a channel for students to share their creative projects and talents with the school community.

The Challenge

The reclassification of English Language Learners (ELLs) at César Chávez has been low, and over the past two years it has declined slightly at the school and declined significantly district-wide. Students are reclassified after meeting various linguistic and academic criteria. The design team believes that by using more open-ended, creative and inquiry-based projects in classrooms, students will be more motivated to learn and practice language skills and therefore increase reclassification numbers.
